Project at a Glance. The plant produced traditional Chinese medicine preparations using a fermentation-based extraction process. Residual extraction wastewater was treated biologically using an A/A/O process.
Challenge. The anaerobic and anoxic stages generated strong odors as organic material decomposed. Because the biological tanks were open, odors dispersed across the industrial park and contributed to complaints from nearby businesses and residents.
